Journals
The library subscribes to a variety of academic journals, both online and print format, within the fields of anthropology, history, and Native American studies. Online journals can be accessed on campus only, through the links below. Current issues are on display in the library lobby. Issues from the last two to five years are accessible in the open book stacks. Older issues, along with the bulk of our periodical holdings, are stored in closed stacks and will be retrieved by the librarian upon request. Most journals cannot be checked out, but the library has a self-serve copy machine that will print or scan to USB.
Article databases are not available through the library due to prohibitively high cost, plus the fact that many of our resident fellows already have access through their own university affiliations. Websites such as WorldCat and JSTOR and Project MUSE can be used to search for journal articles without full text access. Please note that SAR collections do not appear in Worldcat. NM state residents have open access to full text scholarly articles with Gale Academic OneFile through the El Portal databases provided by the New Mexico State Library.

Periodical Holdings List (PDF)
The library’s periodical holdings contain over 300 titles dating from the late nineteenth century up to the present, including journals, reports, bulletins, newsletters, society papers, and conference proceedings. Our holdings include many publications from the American Anthropological Association (AAA) and the Smithsonian. Not all of our periodical titles are listed in the online catalog. For a full list of our holdings, download the Periodical Holdings List from the link above. Contact the librarian to request past issues in storage.
