Tune into SAR Artists Live on Thursday, December 15 at 6:00 p.m. MDT!
Monica Silva Lovato is a fourth-generation traditional potter and a third-generation silversmith from the Pueblos of San Felipe and Kewa/Santo Domingo. She’s part of the Pueblo Pottery Collective, a Native-based collective who curated the “Grounded in Clay” exhibition on view at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture.
Lovato selected and wrote about two pots for the show: a San Felipe cooking jar c. 1880-1900 and a dough bowl c. 1920-1940 made by her great-grandmother, Monica Silva. Join us live on Instagram to learn why Silva chose these works, how her family influences her artistic practice, and what inspires her pottery and silversmithing.
