In New Mexico the Spanish phrase “La Querencia” is an endearing term for place of the heart or homeland. “La Querencia” is personified in the visual imagery of Ghost Ranch that has been captured so often through the lens of photographers or the canvas of painters such as Georgia O’Keeffe. Craig Varjabedian is a celebrated photographer who uses the landscape of Ghost Ranch to personify our New Mexican identity. He has created a 75-print exhibition, Ghost Ranch and the Faraway Nearby, which will be displayed at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. Evoking our sense of place, Varjabedian’s exhibit will be presented at SAR through an illustrated lecture.
