Miles Miller

1999-2000 Harvey W. Branigar, Jr. Native Intern

Miles Miller, from Wapato, Washington, the 1999-2000 Branigar Fellow in museum collections management, holds an AFA in Museum Studies from the Institute of American Indian Arts (1998), where he was on the Dean’s list. His foundation of coursework included museum studies, art, art history, and anthropology. Miles served in the intern programs at the National Museum of American History in the Office of the Registrar, and at the National Museum of the American Indian in collections management. His work experience includes positions as registrar trainee at the Yakama Nation Museum and exhibits curator assistant at the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum.

Miles was brought up in the traditions of the Yakama nation, is a member of the Washat religion, and participates with his family in winter ceremonial dances. His interests include beadwork, photography, family history, and gathering and preparing traditional foods.

During the fellowship, Miles will be working at the Indian Arts Research Center in Collections Management and Care, Record Keeping, Program Support, Administration, Museum Studies and Conservation Training. He plans to pursue a BA in Art History, an MA in Art History or Museum Studies, and to work in collections management at the National Museum of the American Indian.
