Cindy Burnett

1998-1999 Harvey W. Branigar, Jr. Native Intern

Cindy Burnett was the 1998–99 Harvey W. Branigar, Jr., Native American Fellow. With a professional goal of working on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation managing cultural resources, Burnett has benefited from the opportunity to work daily in basic collections management, research, preservation, conservation, and museum studies.

Married with two young sons, Burnett is an enrolled member of the White Mountain Apache tribe in Arizona, where she lives in the 7 Mile community on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. She completed her B.A. in anthropology at the University of Arizona and in 1998 received an M.A. in American Indian studies with a focus on federal Indian law and policy. Her thesis examined the Arizona tribes’ management of cultural resources, including intellectual property rights, historic sites, and ceremonies.
