Ceremony Honoring 2017 J.I. Staley Prize Held at MIT

Dec 11, 2017

During a well attended event on November 13 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, SAR president Michael F. Brown presented the J.I. Staley Prize to Professor Stefan Helmreich for his book Alien Ocean: Anthropological Voyages in Microbial Seas (University of California Press, 2009). Alien Ocean, the thirtieth book to be awarded the Staley Prize, was praised by the selection panel for the way that it “considers how new biotechnologies dissolve the interface between the human and non-human, thus disrupting the nature/culture binary and our understanding of life itself.”

SAR President Michael Brown awards the 2017 J.I. Staley Prize to Professor Stefan Helmreich.
