Members Matter. Meet Maria.

Apr 27, 2021

Our members matter. Over the last year the team at SAR have had the pleasure of welcoming new members and have worked to keep our growing community connected through virtual public programs.

SAR’s expansion of online programming has helped open doors for new and existing members from around the world to experience the range of new ideas and engaging perspectives presented by our scholars, artists, and wider community of thought leaders.

One of our newest members, Maria, found SAR serendipitously this last year. Stuck at home in Missouri, Maria had been searching for online opportunities to fill the social and intellectual void created by the pandemic-related restrictions. As she told SAR recently, she has always had an interest in the history and culture of New Mexico, specifically Puebloan history and pottery. After discovering one of SAR’s online artist talks, she started exploring our recorded programs on YouTube and signing up for upcoming virtual events to feed her hungry mind. She notes,

“So much was missing from my life from the lack of in person events, concerts, lectures… these online lectures and talks allowed me to connect with things that I wouldn’t have been able to participate in otherwise.”

In just the past year, Maria has attended over twenty-five of our online events and has joined SAR as a member, despite never once stepping foot on campus. However, she certainly looks forward to visiting one day and seeing our collection in person when it is safe to do so. “I have really enjoyed the intellectual challenge offered by SAR’s programs. SAR has helped to fulfill my intellectual life during this time.”

Today we invite you to join Maria in becoming a member of SAR. Your membership makes it possible for us to deliver quality content virtually that furthers our mission to explore humanity and better understand the world in which we live. Never has there been a more important time to do this work. Members matter.
