Maria Spray

Program Coordinator, Scholar Programs

Maria grew up in Santa Fe. Though she loves living here now, as a teenager and young adult, she did not have a great appreciation for the charms of its beautiful weather, multi-cultural experiences, and quiet lifestyle. Consequently, she left New Mexico as soon as possible to explore the world. Undergraduate coursework came first with studies pursued in Colorado, New York, and Las Cruces, New Mexico. After a few years of work in the retail business, Maria continued the family tradition of service and joined the Peace Corps teaching English in Estonia. This experience opened up a whole new world to her and led to other overseas teaching stints in South Korea, Taiwan, and Mexico. Finally gaining a greater appreciation for her hometown, Maria settled down in the home she grew up in and earned a master’s degree from St. John’s College, Santa Fe. She also worked in administration at St. John’s, including a year as the Assistant to the Vice President of Development. In her capacity as the Scholars Program assistant, Maria brings experience as an academic administrator to her position.
