Popular obesity discourses in the US have constructed a perceptual reality wherein it seems as though no one is safe from becoming fat. This presentation explores how youth at one high school negotiated their fear of fat within a paradoxical school environment that taught the importance of eating healthfully and exercising while offering primarily fattening foods and limiting opportunities for exercise. Relevant health and policy implications will also be discussed.
