My intention is to teach the basic embroidery so that it can go on from generation to generation. I want other people to learn and carry it on.

Many contemporary Pueblo embroiderers learned their craft from their mothers, aunts, or grandmothers. Some attended sewing classes, while still others are self-taught. Most of today’s embroiderers share the hope that younger generations will continue this enduring textile art that carries forward imagery and meaning from their ancestors.

This section offers practical instruction and downloadable patterns for the beginning embroiderer.
