Awarded the 2013 Rollin and Mary Ella King Native artist fellowship at SAR, Will Wilson (Navajo) is widely recognized for his unusual approach to the world of photography. While in residence at SAR, Will focused on his Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX) project, employing the 19th century tintype process to stimulate a critical dialogue and reflection around the historical and contemporary “photographic exchange” as it pertains to Native Americans.
In addition to his SAR residency, Will has received many awards including the prestigious Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art in 2007 and the Native Arts and Culture Foundation Artistic Innovation Award in 2010.
