SAR Artists Live with Amber-Dawn Bear Robe will take place Wednesday, April 21st at 4pm (MST).

Tune in to another Anne Ray intern-hosted in-depth conversation on Indigenous Fashion with Amber-Dawn Bear Robe (Blackfoot), a multi-talented Indigenous educator, writer, and curator. She is Assistant Faculty of Art History in the Museum Studies department at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and is currently curating an exhibition for the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA).

Beyond this work, Amber-Dawn also designs, curates, and creates programming for the annual Indigenous fashion show for the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts (SWAIA). Walk with Pride, a documentary film short on the 2018 Indigenous fashion show produced by Bear Robe, won a regional Emmy in the fall of 2020.

“My ambition with any fashion show I work on,” Amber-Dawn explains, “is to feature designers who are not bound by conventions or expectations of what ‘Indian’ art or dress is or should be.”

To watch and chat with Amber-Dawn about her forward-thinking curatorial work, login to your Instagram account and go to SAR’s Instagram page at 4pm on April 21st!

Ever wonder what kind of equipment, materials, techniques, and space artists use to create their work? SAR’s new live series on Instagram takes you into the studio with leading Native American artists to find out this and more. Go behind-the-scenes and into the workspace of the many talented artists SAR has partnered with, both past and present. During this live event, participants can gain insight into the artist’s process, find out where they draw inspiration, and learn how current events are impacting their work and changing their outlook. Hosts Elysia Poon, director of SAR’s Indian Arts Research Center, and Felicia Garcia, curator of education, will interview the artists in a dynamic and informal dialogue guided in part by questions submitted throughout the conversation from the audience via the Instagram Live chat feature.
