The Southwest native cultures also represented the human body on ceramics. For example, in Mimbres pottery, human representations were painted in the interior of bowls. Petroglyph human imagery was also applied to functional items such as ladles. The art of the Southwest showcases a distinct style in representing the human body as compared to the ancient Mayan and Andean civilizations.
