Philip R. Jonsson

Philip R. Jonsson is an active member of the business and civic communities in Dallas, Texas and Little Rock, Arkansas. He is a founder of and serves on the Board of the Dallas Symphony Foundation. He has served as Chairman of the Dallas Symphony Association; Chairman of the Alliance for Higher Education; Chairman of the Arkansas Cancer Research Center Foundation; and as a Board Member of the Excellence in Education Foundation; the Southwestern Medical Foundation; the Texas Committee for Public Education; and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Friends of the Ottenheimer Library. He is Trustee and President emeritus of the Philip R. Jonsson Foundation.

After graduation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Industrial and Engineering Administration, Mr. Jonsson worked in the petroleum exploration and production industry in Midland, Texas and founded Great Plains Land Company. In Midland, he served on the Boards of the Midland Independent School District, the Midland County Unit of the American Cancer Society, the Midland Cerebral Palsy Center and was a founding member of the Midland Council for Retarded Children. He later served as Chairman of the Board of Citizens Bank, Richardson, Texas.

Currently, Mr. Jonsson is the President and Chairman of the Board of Signal Media Corporation, which owns and operates radio stations in Arkansas, and includes Signal Media Publishing, which specializes in innovative classroom materials for the public school system.
