Patrick V. Kirch

Patrick V. Kirch has a Ph.D. from Yale in anthropology. He is currently the Class of 1954 Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research has focused on the Pacific Islands, specifically Melanesia and Polynesia. He has received numerous honors for his work, including the J. I. Staley prize in 1998 shared with Marshall Sahlins for Anahulu: The Anthropology of History in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, a two-volume set. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society.
