Collecting Ourselves: George Gustav Heye, Estelle Rebec, Dennis Tremblay, and the WhiteClouds

Why do we collect? Collecting can play an important role in appreciating our heritage through tangible objects. For Native people, who have had their cultures amassed by museum personnel, private collectors, anthropologists, and others—everyone but themselves—it might also be seen as a process of cultural resistance and revival, a way of preserving the artistic traditions known to that community.
