Resident Scholars

Since 1973, when the SAR resident scholar program began, each year’s cohort of scholars has developed its own dynamic. With long hours of solitary concentration their common enterprise, some groups are more social than others—some marked by cocktail parties, others by hiking excursions, and still others by the search for the perfect green chile cheeseburger.

Summer Scholars

Summer scholar fellowships are awarded to five or six scholars in anthropology and related fields to pursue research or writing projects that promote understanding of human behavior, culture, society, and the history of anthropology. Both humanistically and scientifically oriented scholars are encouraged to apply.

Campus Scholars

SAR is home to eleven campus scholars who not only work on their own research and book projects, but many of whom also mentor incoming scholars, run the daily affairs of the School, and plan its course for the future.

Visiting Researchers

SAR hosts occasional visiting research associates.

Colloquium Series

In 1974, the year after SAR began its resident scholar program, we recognized an opportunity to share our work with the small city of Santa Fe, renowned for its cultural diversity, its community of artists, and its atmosphere of intellectual curiosity. For the last forty years Santafesiños have flocked to campus to sample the breadth and depth of the scholarship and artistry we foster. The colloquium presentations, which are free and open to the public, occur at noon most Wednesdays throughout the year.
