SAR Scholar Programs Director Publishes Book with Routledge Press
SAR is pleased to announce that Dr. Nicole Taylor, Director of Scholar Programs, recently published, Schooled on Fat: What Teens Tell Us About Gender, Body Image, and Obesity with Routledge Press as part of its Innovative Ethnographies Series. Schooled on Fat takes readers into the fraught world of high school and its experiences of body image, dieting, the social stigma of irresponisbility associated with obesity, and teens’ fluctuating definition of fat. In addition to Taylor’s book, the Innovative Ethnographies Series offers an interactive website in which readers can view teens’ artistic interpretations of how they experience body image; get a glimpse of what ethnographic fieldwork can entail; and, find links to additional information.
Dr. Taylor earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Arizona. After graduate school, she worked in the non-profit sector before joining SAR in 2011.
