Jessica Metcalfe, the 2008–2009 Harvey W. Branigar, Jr. Native Intern, was recently awarded two competitive fellowships. The Ruth Landes Memorial Research Fund fellowship and a University of Arizona Excellence Fellowship in the Humanities and Social Sciences will allow Ms. Metcalfe to return to SAR and finish her dissertation research.

A Ph.D. candidate in American Indian Studies at the University of Arizona, Ms. Metcalfe's research focuses on Native clothing designers. With interests in both academia and curating, Jessica hopes to eventually be granted a joint professor-curatorial appointment in a university or tribal college museum. She also hopes to increase appreciation and cross-cultural understanding of contemporary Native art and literature.

Beginning in January 2010, SAR welcomes Ms. Metcalfe as a visiting research associate. She will be in residence at the School through the end of the academic year.
