Painter Jeffrey Gibson Named as Recipient of the Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art

Indianapolis, IN – Painter Jeffrey Gibson was recently named a recipient of the Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art. The 2008 Ronald and Susan Dubin Native Artist Fellow at SAR is one of five artists to receive this prestigious award. Along with a $25,000 unrestricted grant and inclusion in an exhibition at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, some of Gibson’s work will also be purchased for the Eiteljorg’s renowned collection of contemporary Native art.

According to the Eiteljorg’s website, “The Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art program has awarded over $500,000 in unrestricted grants and added more than 125 pieces of art by 30 Native American fine artists to its permanent collection over the last 10 years.”

While at SAR, Gibson focused on abstracted landscapes based on the Southwest and items within the IARC collection. The School for Advanced Research congratulates Jeffrey Gibson for this well-deserved award.
