Artist Duane Slick Receives Prestigious Eiteljorg Fellowship
Artist Duane Slick was recently announced as a recipient of the 2011 Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art. The 2010 Dubin Fellow is one of only five artists to receive the prestigious award from the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art this year. Slick is the second SAR Native Artist fellow to receive this fellowship, which comes with an unrestricted grant of $25,000 and inclusion in an exhibit featuring the awardees. In 2009, 2008 Dubin Fellow Jeffrey Gibson was also named as an Eiteljorg fellow.
According to the Eiteljorg’s website:
Since its inception in 1999, the Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art has awarded more than $850,000 in unrestricted grants and added more than 200 pieces of art by 35 Native fine artists to the Eiteljorg Museum’s permanent collection. As a result, the Eiteljorg is acknowledged to have the finest collection of Native contemporary art in the world.
While at SAR, Slick created several paintings based on the IARC collections and his surroundings in New Mexico. SAR congratulates Duane Slick on this well-merited honor.
