SAR Announces the Release of Interim President/Senior Scholar David E. Stuart's Second Edition of Anasazi America
The first edition, published in 2000, sold well over 20,000 copies. This new edition, much expanded, explores in-depth the dynamics that led to the creation of Chacoan society and makes the argument that Chacoan successes created the seeds of Chaco’s decline through failure to adapt to changing infrastructure and resource needs. Inequality of food, wealth, and longevity between Chacoan farmers and Chacoan elites in the Great House communities was as profound as current inequality in modern America. Throughout the book, Stuart emphasizes the parallels to contemporary America and includes groundbreaking research undertaken by his students at the University of New Mexico. Some of that research was the subject of a colloquium delivered two years ago at SAR.
The book’s official release is Wednesday, May 21st, 2014, at 7:00 PM at Bookworks next to the Flying Star on Rio Grande Blvd. in Albuquerque. Dr. Stuart hopes for a Santa Fe event in the near future.
