Rob Morlino of KSFR interviewed lecturer Flagg Miller on February 6, 2017. You can listen to the interview here.

Following the fall of the Afghan Taliban in December 2001, the Cable News Network acquired more than 1500 audiotapes from Osama bin Laden’s residential Kandahar compound. Featuring over two hundred speakers from around the world, the collection contains twenty-four previously unpublished recordings of bin Laden and many of Al-Qa`ida’s top leaders. In an intriguing talk, Flagg Miller, associate professor of religious studies, will focus on bin Laden’s emergence as a leader renowned for asceticism and audacity in challenging America’s global power.  He will explore how the story of “Al-Qa`ida”, as a worldwide militant/terrorist organization, was largely the product of Western security analysts and how bin Laden and others had different views and goals.
