During the first decades of the twentieth century, a new generation of American Indian leaders sowed the seeds of what would soon grow into a vibrant movement for self-determination. While these “Red Progressives” unanimously sought Indian independence and self-sufficiency, how to achieve such results was the subject of much disagreement.
