Abstract Landscapes and Social Visions: Reading Southwestern Photobooks

During the twentieth century, Southwestern photographers often focused on the beauty of the region. Some, however, also dramatized the differences between aesthetic and social approaches to landscape. This talk will explore the interplay between image and text by Edward Weston and Charis Wilson in their book California and the West (1940).
