Book Signing by SAR Senior Scholar Dr. David E. Stuart
Book Event, Garcia Street Books
Sunday, July 13, 2014, 12:00 pm
Dr. Stuart will present the second edition of his book Anasazi America at noon on Sunday, July 13th, at Garcia Street Books in Santa Fe. The first edition of the book, published in 2000, sold well over 20,000 copies and this new edition, much expanded, explores in-depth the dynamics that led to the creation of Chacoan society. Stuart makes the argument that Chacoan successes created the seeds of Chaco’s decline through failure to adapt to changing infrastructure and resource needs. Inequality of food, wealth, and longevity between Chacoan farmers and elites in the Great House communities was as profound as current inequality in modern America. Throughout the book, Stuart emphasizes the parallels to contemporary America and includes groundbreaking research undertaken by his students at the University of New Mexico. Some of that research was the subject of a colloquium delivered two years ago at SAR.
